I sold one of my sets the other day to fund my upcoming Let's split build. For some reason I though that buying 3 sets was really needed. Anyway, they're manufactured by NPKC and they do somewhat regular appearances on Massdrop (with ISO-addons if that's something you need).
Also, if you like colours, NPKC has some colourful sets as well: sentraq.com/collections/keycap…. But for some reason they don't have any ISO-kits for them though.
Another popular blank Cherry profiled keyset in PBT is the ones from Gaterons. The guy over at UK-Keycaps told me he's going to get some of those in stock soon: ukkeycaps.bigcartel.com/produc…. Keep an eye out there and over at Massdrop.
NP! You'll probably know it already, but some great source to news, inspiration, groupbuys and everything else related to keyboards is r/mechanicalkeyboards on Reddit, Deskthority.net and Geekhack.org.
Just watch out for you wallet. It's way to easy to spend way to much money on things you never knew you needed!
Thanks, that's really helpful I recognise those websites during my search for keycaps. I only stumbled across your post on Deviantart.com because I was looking for customised Filco Majestouch 2s. I'm interested in the same kb with blue switches. I quite like the black/graphite and orange look, with a little beige thrown in The GMK Carbon Keycap set looks quite nice but I haven't been able to find one without inscriptions/blank and with UK layout :/ I'll definitely check out Reddit, Deskthority.net and Geekhack in future though Cheers
Ah! Finding a good keycap set with the ISO-layout can be tuff. And if you're swedish and want åäö, it's even harder or near impossible. That's why I went with some blanks. It was scary at first, but now I can't see myself bying anything else. Even though I like the style of the GMK sets. But they're just ABS plastic and I'm only bying sets in PBT-plastic, with the Cherry profile.
Cherry MX Blue is a nice clicky switch, loud as hell though! I like them, but I'm a boring linear person myself.
Anyway, if you're looking for keysets, you have to be patient (like really patient!) and you need to be activly scanning the communities. Most sets are only available via group buys announced on said sites. And be preparded that some sets can be quite expensive to!
If you have any questions or so, feel free to ask me anything here or like via Jabber. I'm not an expert or a know-it-all, but I know a few things after being in the community for some years.
That's awesome! I invested in a keyboard similar to this last year. Having blank keycaps and being TKL. I never want to go back. I love the simplicity and superb quality.
welcome my friend! but really... how do you manage not to get confused? I mean I can type without looking at the keyboard but sometimes I have to look down just for a second to make sure my hands are in the right place.
It's all in your head. Touch typing is all about muscle memory. And I have memorized the less used ones pretty good by using Linux and learning HTML/CSS.
Arch.. Now that's a nice distro... My main driver has always been Windows but I've always played around with Linux since I first saw it at a computer club way back in 1998. Then in 1999, after I've got my first PC, I've got a free linux cd together with a PCWorld magazine and sacrifice my windows 98 setup to install linux. But unfortunately I didn't make it past the terminal. Since then I've tested a lot of distros and I always have one installed in a virtual machine. My favorite is mint which has a nice nostalgic taste. I really don't like the direction Ubuntu is going specially when it comes to their Unity GUI. I really wish I could have linux as my daily driver but I have to use too many windows only software. But maybe someday... I can dream, right?
Ah! What distro did they ship with the magazine? Wasn't Slackware very popular back then?
Back in -98 I had barley touched a computer. I was a latle bloomer and bought my first own computer back in -04 or -05. But my family got their first computer back in -01, but my mom hated when I tinkered with it, so I didn't do much other than surfed the web via the 56k dial-up connection. :/
Mint is a very popular distro. I have tried it a few times, but it's not my cup of tee. I like doing things myself and I like having controll of things. I used to be a avid Ubuntu user - I'm actually a Ubuntu member. But I stopped using Ubuntu as my daily driver and switched to Arch when they talked about replacing Gnome 2 with this Unity thing. And since then they have taken some pretty weird turns down the road. But I have always used and I'm still using Ubuntu on my server. But I'm actually debating if I'm going to switch to Arch there as well. Not that Ubuntu Server is bad, it's just that I feel kinda lost with Ubuntu.
What software are you using that's Windows exlusive? Dreams is all that we have sometimes.
